A former Ficleteer. Now, I am a Ficly acolyte – a Ficlyte, if you will. (You can thank uselessness for that term!)
Spread the word, brothers and sisters! :-D

Old bio boring. New bio commencing:
At some point, I figured out I like to read. First books of importance: The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander in the 5th grade. I specifically asked to stay inside during recess to read them. Next came the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. Of those, The Elfstones of Shannara and The Druid of Shannara are my favorite.
Later, I discovered I have an intense love for science fiction and Orson Scott Card, which culminates in Ender’s Game. I own several copies and I’ve read it at least a dozen times. Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein and Foundation by Isaac Asimov were also inspiring. Dune by Frank Herbert occupies a place in my mind second only to Ender’s Game. Probably my favorite books begin with Ender’s Game, Dune, Starship Troopers, and the Shannara series, in that order.
I write primarily in science fiction and high fantasy. -

This site is totally awesome. I really enjoyed ficlets.com (where I went by my alternative handle of kjaneway), and I thought that it was a great shame that the decision was made to close it.
However, one of the useful things was that everything was Creative Commons licensed, so though the site itself went away, we didn’t lose the explosion of creativity it generated.
And now we’re back; hopefully, to be even better than before.
So, you want to know about me:
- I really, really hate describing myself, especially in little textboxes
- I got into writing via fanfic, mostly playing with lesbian subtext in sci-fi shows
- I like correct spelling and use of punctuation, and good grammar
- I adore the limitations of the ficly format, and won’t post unless I’ve hit the magical 1024 characters
- I can’t remember a time when I couldn’t read, and I think life without the creative arts wouldn’t be worthwhile
- I hold an honours degree in Chemistry
-
Dare to try. I like diversity and immagination. What happens next. With a B.V.A. Degree I do not get away from paper work. I am also a Registered nurse.(General, Psychiatric,Mental Retardation and hold certificates in Immunization and Management. I like to interact with people across all mediums. My favourite places are Paris and New Orleans.(and Australia)
Please be kind and leave constructive criticism as I’m from the land down under and the way I describe things may be a wee bit different to the way you verbalise. -
You know that moment when you realize you’re in over your head?

I missed this place. I missed posting. I can’t be the user that I was before, but I’m going to post. -

Aurelia is battling a quarter-life crisis with the help of Ficly and a lot of coffee. She is launching into the abyss of a new career as a (sexy) academic librarian, and working it all out in just 1024 characters.

Jessica Brown is a lifelong fan of horror and dark fantasy whose work has been featured in several print anthologies. Her first novel, Teahouse, is forthcoming through Library of Horror Press.

This time, it’s mostly Jason’s fault. He’s the one who convinced me that we couldn’t just leave well enough alone. He got the designers to donate their time, and wrote all the HTML, CSS and 95% of the javascript. I did the models and controllers. Nope, we couldn’t just let it go. We had to try it again.

I like shiny things. Are you a shiny thing?

Husband. Father: two boys. Guinness fan. Scotch whisky admirer. Poker player: live since mid ‘80s; online since ‘00. Activities: goalie (beer league), curler (more beer), golfer (even more beer), soccer (coach and player).
Geek.
I’m “in computers” by profession so I have a few venues as creative outlets. This may be another. My interaction is usually directly proportional to my need to relieve stress.
I am driven by inspiration: without it, I am usually silent.
I will strive to comment on at least 5 recent/random stories for every one I write.

Dr. Tim’s Neurotic Rules of Ficly Life
[Disclaimer: This is not intended to be binding nor in any way an expectation of general members of Ficly, league members, family members or wearers of Member’s Only jackets]
1. Comment to Story posting ratio must exceed 5:1. Goal is 10:1. In other words, I write a story then find five others (at least) upon which to comment before writing another.
2. For every solo shot or sequel of my own material, I must write a sequel or prequel to the work of another author. If I’m going easy on myself, participating in a challenge also fulfills this requirement.
3. If someone comments on one of my stories, I go find one of theirs upon which to comment. It only seems fair, and I like to think it encourages commenting.
4. Awesomeness is the goal, always. Call me on it when I fail, please.
5. Clearly mark mature content and err on the side of caution.
6. Golden Rule remains in effect for all sequels, prequels, and comments.

I have a hard time writing anything unless it makes me feel small and afraid. The universe is immense, and I am but a speck.
-
Blah.
Well, I also have an account on Protagonize, so I’m not on here all that much. Every now and then, though, I get a chance :)
That said, BLAH.
I don’t really want to write much about myself right now. -
I have a way to go with fiction writing, and am finding Ficly challenging and inspiring… kind words are nice, but I’d be delighted to receive constructive criticism when you have it!
-
I want to be a high fantasy writer like Marion Zimmer Bradley or Anne McCaffrey. Unfortunately, I seem to be a spiritual fiction writer, but only for off religions. I find that my writing pours from me and I can go back and read it and have no clue what I had written till I do! When it’s forced, I can tell, and I think everyone else can too. I have an obsession with finding the right wardrobe, doorway, shadow to side step through. Faery is there, a place where all things are real, Gods are people, legends are Gods and the more people believe in them, the more power they have in reality. I hope you enjoy my stuff, even if you don’t believe. Just cause I don’t believe in faery, doesn’t mean it isn’t there, just means I can’t see it.

I’m 18. I live in Chicago, IL.
Uhhh I’m going to school for illustration, but sometimes I just, like, love writing.I was on this site all the time maybe two years ago, but I haven’t been checking routinely in over 10 months.
-
Is a student once again and lurking in the shadows, reading your ficlets in secret. ;^) Hopefully will be bitten by the writing bug again one day. OH! I see it has been at least 11 months since I last contributed— sadly, I will not be updating time line today.
Keep up the great work troops! Soldier on, warriors… Soldier on..

I like CLEMENTINES and long walks on the beach.

NOTE: I am happy to build feedback loops, where I comment on all your stories if you comment on all mine. If you have less than twenty stories, I’ll go first – but otherwise, I’d offer batch processing.
A gamer born and bred, a writer clawing his way out from inside.
I’m still 39, married, a cog in a corporate machine, and I play just about any game known to modern geeks. SmilinStan on XBox Live, in case you wanna look.

Just one of those corporate America types, who wants to work on her writing skills. I’d like to think I’m pretty good at taking (constructive) criticism, so lay it on me. Please.
I like writing about places (mostly places I read about in National Geographic), and I’ve written a bunch of short little things about them that I’ll probably be posting now that I’ve found ficly.
-
I may be a writer. I may be another mindless boob typing away on her thinkbox to voice the ridiculous thoughts that fill her head. Let’s watch and see.

I’m from a small college town near Baltimore. It’s a sleepy place—all I’ve really got here is my imagination. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It offers for one hell of a ride.
