Neatly In a Row

This challenge has ended!

Write a full story, one Ficly at a time. No winners, just story.

The first submission kicks it off, after that, only sequels and prequels allowed!

Ficly was started on the idea of working with each other through sequels and prequels to build a multi-author story that is longer than just one post. I created this challenge in hopes of reigniting that idea.

I know how to do it. If anyone wants to know, send me a note.

  2. Avatar 32 ^2

Using story url numbers as tags works great too. Just the ending numbers of the url.

  3. Avatar Osiris

Just submit it with the title of the ficly designating its place in the story as per the format I presented before.

    Sorry for the hazy instructions.

  4. Avatar BiC

Simultaneously writing a prequel or sequel and entering that story in a challenge, is a challenge itself. Dong so involves a url edit, and it takes some practice to get it right. Someone posted the code some time ago… somewhere.

  5. Avatar Osiris

Yes, try to keep it under the challenge. Use the title to mark where in the storyline it falls:

    Sequels: S1, S2, S3, and so on

    Prequels: P1, P2, P3, and so on

  6. Avatar Robert Quick

Also should the prequels and sequels be entered into the challenge too?

  7. Avatar BiC

Of course, if the protagonist were a schizophrenic time traveler with amnesia, the multiple branches might define the story instead of corrode it. :)

  8. Avatar Osiris

I’ll allow it lol. Obviously a Ficly might bring this to a dead end, therefore we would need the ability to do that.

My only suggestion would be to avoid making someones work redundant. If there needs to be a new branch, present it in such a way that the branch flows naturally off.

  9. Avatar Robert Quick

Can the story have multiple branches (multiple prequels and sequels) to any individual Ficly? Not that it occurs here too often but I am thinking about if someone hijacks the story or turns it nonsensical.

Want to join in the fun? Of course you do!
