All The World's A Stage...

This challenge has ended!

I have discovered that there are a fair few thespians here on Ficly, and, in a similar vein to my musical instruments challenge, here I ask you to write about that home of the arts – the theatre!

Whether you concern yourself with the building or the backstage, the performers or playwrights, make this a tribute to acting in all it’s many guises… I will be disappointed if Shakespeare and musical theatre don’t crop up at least once (not neccessarily together!) but all judging will, of course, be impartial.

As a theatre buff and keen amateur actor and director I will be judging with my heart as well as my head, so good technical skill as well as oodles of passion are kindly requested…

Here we go again, it’s the post-challenge review!

In third place, we have a look at the more brutal side of theatre as a commercial enterprise – though the thought that it is there solely to make money is not strictly true, I have no doubt that in some cases, the kind of picture painted in lastsyllable’s ‘Plenipotentiary’ is not too far from the truth.

In second place, Music-Hearted’s ‘Alive’ – which went woefully unread, a brilliant poem which sums up the buzz of theatre performing better than I think I ever could, very strong!

But in first place, a truly epic story, a character study sent from heaven – ‘Same Old Scene’ by Eckhouse is a truly sensational look back on an old pro’s career, with a cigarette lit, and a paying audience waiting…

Finally, an Honourable Mention to the fearless PJ Deane, who’s range of entries covered many aspects of theatre to say the least
