This challenge has ended!
I don’t know if you have or have not seen the recent… dispute, I suppose, about poetry, but one happened, and it kinda got me thinking: what exactly is poetry?
Is poetry a structured Shakespeare sonnet, or simply free expression of thoughts, or something in between?
Of course, you can always consult Wiki and get a nice answer, but we all know there’s more to it than that. So, my challenge is…
Figure out exactly what poetry is to you, and then write a poem.
That’s about it, but I’d like for the poem that you write to somehow show off your definition of poetry, whether it be through execution, subject matter, etc.
Dust off those poetry collections, study up a bit, and tell us what you think. You have about a week, and the challenge ends July 1st.
(And just a reminder, please follow the new community standards, guys!)
Go for it, LW.
This challenge scares me just a little. But I won’t let that stop me from entering.
My favourite Poetry definition is from “Poet’s Dictionary” by William Packard – rhythmic beauty
