Creative Writing Class, Week Two

Okay, week two of Creative Writing is in progress. This week, we were given a discussion question to consider and respond to. This response, for those who wish to participate in the discussion, can be on the right side of this page.

“Can we learn to write well? How?”

We’re reading “A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty.

Some of the interesting tidbits from this week:

To directly address something that is not human is called an ‘apostrophe’. If you’ve ever written a letter to Winter or a sunset or your car, then you’ve done it before.

“imagery vs picture”
(a picture is two dimensional and flat, an image is three dimensional and detailed)

“earn the final period that closes the door of your story”
Work to achieve a worthy ending instead of just coming up with an ending.

“rewrite for specificity”
Make sure your writing is specific and your ideas are clear, rewrite to achieve this.

This week’s prompt:
A ficly on “A person I have seen but never met.”
