A New Beginning

As his car zoomed off the side of the bridge, engine revving, he closed his eyes. He enjoyed the feeling of falling, imagining he was a bird soaring to freedom.
His car had tilted forward after careening off the bridge, so when he hit the water, his body slammed into the windshield. He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. He felt it was just another way “the man” was trying to keep him in line.
Luckily, his end was quick and he had no time to feel pain. The car slowly sank to the bottom of the river. The cops stood in the gap, watching it sink, but also calling for help. They looked so small against the rest of the back-drop.
In true incompetant fashion, the divers took awhile to arrive at the scene. At that point, there was no hope of finding him alive.
They dragged his lifeless body from the river and chucked it into an ambulance. A cop was later reported as saying, “Good riddance to bad rubbish.”
What the authorities didn’t know is that ten miles away, a man was awakening from his coma after ten years.
