Day 5: Initiation By Sylvia Plath

January 5th

“Where did you run off to yesterday?” Robin asked as we sat in our seats.

“I just had a lot of homework, " I mumbled.

“Oh?” Robin replied, knowing I was lying.

The bell rang before he could push the conversation to go any further.

“Good morning class,” my history teacher greeted us.

“So what book are you reading today?” Robin whispered to me.

“Initiation,” I replied, “I read it this morning.”

“Isn’t that like a page?”

“six.”

“That’s cheati-”

“Mr. Samuels, is there something you’d like to share with the class?” Our history teacher interrupted.

The class laughed and a smile spread across my face as I watched Robin turn red. However the next words that came out of our teachers mouth brushed it right off.

“We are going to be having a final project and I will be picking your partners,” He announced.

We all wished for him to tell us that he was kidding, our teacher never jokes.

He went through the list, and we all learned who we were going to be spending the better part of our days with.
