The Ultimate Chronicle - Part 36

“Wallace? How are you here?” said Lincoln. The blast from the Emancipation Proclamation left the time citadel shaking, the infinite spires cracking dangerously.

“I woke up here after a night of heavy drinking,” answered the Scottish knight, wrenching his sword from the body of Booth, cut almost in two. “Now what do we do?”

Lincoln said, “The fragment of Mecha-Hitler must have killed Wells to take his place. Without him, we may never escape.”

Rasputin panted after his exertion, his robes sizzling. “I can return you to the Positive Zone. My soul is bound to the Staff of Ra, and I can create a conduit between the two. I must stay here to anchor the path.”

“Why would you help us?” Wallace levelled his sword at Rasputin.

“It is the only way for you now. I know it is a matter of time before I find a way to return and kill Lincoln,” said Rasputin, laughing with the conviction of the insane. He spread his hands. His body was engulfed in utter blackness, a blind road that stretched beyond all space and time.
