Desk #4: Ingrid Burundukov

School was easy when you weren’t hungry. She finished the week’s homework last night with moma Decker. It was alright to keep her family name for now, the Decker’s didn’t want to take away her identity.

She was Ingrid, but she was no more “Burundukov” than she was Smitther, or Yavo, or Stein. Her new parents were wise, and she did not want to seem ungrateful so she kept her peace for now.

It could wait. She would feel like a citizen of this country and a member of this family once the teacher could pronounce her name without stumbling.
