Gallows Pole - Part 2

The small crowd gathered to see the execution. They were planning on seeing this even though a storm was just about upon them. Women in fancy dresses held their umbrellas with laced gloved hands making sure that the rain would not soak their designer gowns. The men wore their gentleman’s robes with dignity. They all stood and watched the executioner prepare his noose. The minister was standing nervously on the platform with his Bible held close to his chest.

Drums began to play as in the distance a patrol of 7 prison guards were escorting the prisoner to the gallows. The faint chimes of chains could be heard over the drums as the prisoner walked. The crowd gasped at such a horrid sight. Was this the infamous pirate that had roamed the Caribbean?

The prisoner stepped onto the platform. The executioner prepared his noose around the prisoner’s neck as the minister read his last rights. When he finished, the minster asked, “Do you have any last words?”

The prisoner spat and said, “Go to hell.”
