A Day in the Life

Avatar Author: Addam Kearney Read Bio

Awakening is so strange nowadays. Bland, dull, lifeless colors give way to a bland, dull, lifeless day. Muscles stretching gives way to bones creaking. You think that you have so much to do, so much to live for. You don’t, though. This bed is about as comfortable as life will ever be.

The phone rings again. The caller ID says that it’s the same “Unavailable Caller” that’s been calling you day in and day out. You know they want their money. Screw them, though. They never told you what you were getting into.

It didn’t always used to be like this.

There were so many days that were filled with such emotion. Such beauty and grace. There were dreams, hopes and all kinds of aspirations. When they told you to sign on the line, you thought that your investment would be returned ten-fold. How wrong you were.

You unplug the phone. Sleep sounds nice, just like it did yesterday. This is a day in the life of the future king of the world. The man who was going to control everything.

Depressing. Kind of weird with the second/first person hybrid.

This illustrates the frustration of so many people right now. The anxiety is very realistic.

Definitely a good description of the immobilizing sort of frustration and lack of hope. That middle sentence felt a little awkward with the ‘always used to be’ strung together. Otherwise some great description in the beginning and end bits, especially how you set up that the sleep wasn’t really all that comfortable with the aching muscles and bones then flipped it into being the most comfortable thing about his life at that point.
