I see nothing but darkness; hear nothing but my heart beating furiously that it could burst out at any moment. I could only feel the brutal smashes on my body as I slowly shrink to the ground, my back to the wall.

What did they want from me? What did I do?

A light suddenly flashes in front of me, momentarily blinding me as my eyes adjust to the sudden brilliancy. The blows stop short and the people surrounding me start to back away. I blink rapidly, eager to see the stranger clearly. My heart sinks as I notice what had scared them away.
