suburban wasteland

I can hear them coming now. It’s been 48 hours since this whole thing started. We had all seen the movies and joked about it, but we never thought we would ever be here…in the middle of it all. For two days I have been running. For the last 12 hours I have been alone. My girlfriend was with me in my apartment when the shit hit the fan, but she’s gone now…I didn’t want to, but I had to do it.

I’m somewhere in Connecticut now I think, I don’t know why I’m here, I just started running. I’m holding up in a vacant old Victorian house in what was once probably a nice quiet neighborhood. Now instead of hearing children laughing ad playing soccer in the yards, I hear the moans and screams of the undead tearing apart the inhabitants of this once innocent suburbia.

I scour the house for anything to be used as a weapon and find a tire iron in the garage, clenched in the hands of a middle aged man who left his car running in here. I go to push the button to open the garage door when it happens. A flash, and then…
