Becoming A Man

Somehow, they found out. Maybe it slipped from the lips of a trusted confident. It spread like wildfire, touching every person it could.
’You’re finally a man! Took you long enough.’ Buddies look at you with approval, playful banter is exchanged. For you, a rite of passage, becoming a man.

But you don’t care about yourself, the approval, it doesn’t matter to you. It’s her, your fiancee, the mother of your unborn child. She was suffering while you prospered. She was put down while you’re exalted. No. You want to protect her. You have to. So you do. These people, their praise, it means absolutely nothing if she’s hurt. Because you love her.

That’s what it really means to become a man. To take care of your priorities, your family. You’re no longer a boy…you’re a man.
