Never in my Dreams

I run my hands along the pine wood railing. Leaning against it, I feel the summer breeze sweep up my hair. I take in the smell of the pine trees and the sound of the glentle creek. Mountains paint the horizon in the distance. Away from all the noise of the city and all the chaos back home, this is where my mind is clear.

“He used to mean everything to me. You know? Most people don’t understand it. It’s crazy the way me and him were. Then before I knew it, poof he was gone. Lies came out and he left all his promises broken,” Gripping the railing harder I stare into Dustin eyes. They are full of sweet support and care. “It’s hard for me to believe in anyone after how things happened, but you know what’s amazing?”

He remains silent but I know he’s pleading for an answer.

I take his hand and lean in closer, “I believe in you. When I’m with you, I can leave my whole past behind. It’s like I get a new shot at love with you. I never in my dreams saw this coming.”
