Lovings

The grasshoppers sung as loud and the stars shone bright as ever as she stared up to them. Dew settled on her naked body, cooling the fever, washing off the guilt.
- Remember when we first met?- he asked.
- We can sit next to each other now. – she said.
- And maybe meet at school. – he grinned back. – They’ve ruled!
- Well, my parents will have some words about that. But maybe.
They kissed. For a moment, she saw pictures in her head – a woman with bleeding whip marks on her back, another pregnant and crying, people hanged in a turbulent crowd, her lover’s father scrubbing a floor -, but then it all went quiet. She giggled and held him tight.
- We will even get married.
- Do you think?
- Why not? I has already begun.
She sighed hopefully, staring into his big puppy eyes. They both felt the wind of change… and so did her brother, carrying a big stick towards them.
Hadn’t he been sneaking there, could they be the first ones? We’ll never know. But they were loving, too.
