A reason to smile

As he hammered, small pieces of the wall started coming off. I wished I could help. But instead I just sat on teh couch, wrapped in his trench coat, just glad he was here. A link to my old life that seemed more and more like a dream every day. Maybe I could just go back…Things wouldn’t be the same though. It would all be different. I was different, that much I knew.

After a few minutes he looked up at me and flashed me that smile I’d always loved. He sttod up and pulled me into his arms for a minute. “You’ve no idea how much I’ve missed you Becks” he said. I wrapped my arms around him.
“I’m just glad you’re here” I murmered.
He pulled away gently. “I have to go now”

My face fell, of course I had known he’d have to go at some point, but it was such a comfort having him there. He smiled his smile at me quickly, leaning down and planting a small kiss on my cheek. “I’ll be waiting outside” he said hurrying to the door and allowing the next man in.

I sat down on the couch, a smile slowly spreading on my face.
