“Everybody keeps asking me how she’s doing,” John said, staring at the mirror before him. “Has she really lost her mind. You know what I say?” He took a long pull from his cigarette and exhaled sharply. “I couldn’t tell you, because” He stuffed the burning ember into the sink and placed his palm on the glass. “I’ve lost mine.” John pulled his arm back and threw his fist into the pane, shattering the mirror and sending cracked shards falling to the floor. He reached down with his bloody hand and picked a reflective sliver from the ground. “You pay for what you get,” he whispered.
