Logic, Emotion, and Mathematics

Gravity was my Key

I pushed myself up off the cold ground. Rocks from the road clung to my nakedness. I brushed them away with a shaking hand. Even though I had starved myself relentlessly to get my weight down, it hadn’t been enough to allow me the luxury of clothes.

The Gateway had limits just as it was governed by mathematical constants. Up to a certain point the physics worked normally, but once the limit of seventy-three point three nine kilograms was breached, matter exploded, turned into energy or simply vanished. Unacceptable options, if I was to save my family.

“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” The length of my lever was measured in years, and with it I was going to splinter this time-stream. I just needed to build my fulcrum. That would take time, but time was a luxury I could afford now.

I staggered toward the nearby lights of a lonely farmhouse. They’d have to help me. I’d come too far, been through too much, to be stopped now.
