Method Acting

He told me to think about the process as though in exactly one years time I’ll be starring as myself in a stage musical of my life, and I have to do some character preparation to get into role.

I asked him what the musical would be called, and he told me that didn’t matter. I told him I’d much prefer the production to be a straight play because I don’t sing very well and he said that was tough because sometimes in life we have to do difficult things which ‘push boundaries’.

So now I don’t just have to think about who I am and what my purpose in life is, I also have to consider whether it would be best to push myself to sing as a tenor, or stick to music which sits comfortably in my natural baritone range.

I don’t think I’ll make a very good me. Whoever’s casting this whole spectacle would be much better off finding an actual actor who can believably carry off singing, dancing and acting the part of a middle-aged widower who has something wrong in his head that no-one really understands.

Any ideas?
