Ficly

Realization

He froze, staring down at the naked girl. He didn’t recognize her and this was somehow comforting. He took a deep breath, steadied himself, and ran out of the bathroom.

Frantically, he began searching for his clothes, dressing and searching until he found his keys. He wanted nothing more than to get out, leave nothing behind, forget. What to do with all the bottles, with his fingerprints and saliva and cigarettes? Take them. He began running around the room, gathering all the trash into a big pile on the bed.

He began constructing a story, something he could tell his wife so she wouldn’t fret. He went over what he knew. He had woken up to sound of the shower door closing…

He had heard the shower turn on…

Somebody had killed her. Somebody who hadn’t had a chance to leave.
