Mummy, daddy, I want to be a dolphin.

The implantation of one half of an entangled pair into each individual neuron at the 63rd day after conception is key. Earlier and we lack enough implanted neurons to create a statistical model, any later and the process runs the risk of causing minor neurological side-effects.

The other half of each entangled pair functions as a topographical map of neuronal and synaptic linkage that we use as a record of memory and response. With the Functional Backup System in place, we can overlay that organisation onto a clone brain, not just genetic copies, though that is useful in catastrophic circumstances, but in modifieds.

Of course the map of functional response, say to visual stimulus in a transfer to a mod with the eyes and visual cortex of a hawk, must be adjusted, but the modification is minimal and shouldn’t affect conscious thought in the transferred subject.

Please take a leaflet on the way out, we offer a large selection of mods for those of you planning to give your children the chance to upgrade.
