She was in a hospital bed, a nice clean hospital bed.No gunfire in the background.No wailing.Just machines that, until now, had kept her alive.She couldn’t remember waking up.She was just awake.A miracle of modern medicine.She had been asleep for 7 months and 29 days now.She was left alone, but could not sleep.
How would she adjust? All she knew now where the Sky People.The room was bland,sterile,ugly.The doctor was a young man. A familiar man.
She spoke for the first time.
“Hello there”
He looked up from his chart.Smiled.
“Glad to see you’re awake, didn’t think you’d make it. Your injuries on the front had us a bit worried”
“The front?” she asked. She remembered his name.
“Sawyer”
“Sorry, kid, I had no choice”
“The others?”
He shook his head.
“Where am I now?” she asked, suddenly afraid.
“A few hundred years after your time, we felt you weren’t ready to go home just yet”
“So what do I do?”
“You can go home, if you want”
