Deep Science, part 2

“We’re being overrun!” yells the Colonel, “Fall back!”

The lab man is already running, calling to the men, “Follow me!”

They see him approach a … hole in the woods, and he runs in. Inside, there is a white hallway. Many of the soldiers follow him. Inside the hall, they see men in guard stations, with guns of some sort trained on the hole. Just before the monsters come through, it closes with a vrump, leaving only a blank wall.

A woman in a lab coat approaches them. She asks the other lab man, “How was the test?”

“I was able to successfully capture the target with no effect on the environment,” he answers, “But unfortunately, I was not able to retrieve the prototype.”

“That’s unfortunate,” she comments dryly, “but I think we can still proceed.”

“Proceed with what?”, asks one of the soldiers, apparently possessing more than a gun. “Who are you? What do you do? How did you know where we were? How did you catch it? And what was that thing?”

“We are scientists. And that was testing.”
