Dearest Love

A hacking cough tugged the ribbons from Marissa’s hands once more, interrupting her peaceful rhythm. She frowned at her sister, who smiled sheepishly.

“I apologize. I am rather nervous.. After all, I am getting married.” Sophie said, wincing at the painful tug in her back when her older sister tugged on the ribbons. Marissa smirked as her fingers deftly moved through them. They started weaving the white strips once more.

“It’s fine. Don’t be nervous, dear. He’s the one.” Marissa said soothingly, finishing up. She tied the bow and sat back, eyeing her work. The older girl nodded, pleased with her work. A relieved sigh escaped Sophie’s lips. She looked at herself in the mirror, smoothing down the dress. It was a creamy white, and the corset cinched her waist as the skirt billowed down silkily.

“I-it’s beautiful, Sissa.” the girl managed to say. Tears welled up in her eyes and she wiped them away hastily.

The sisters smiled at each other and Marissa patted her back.

“Go ahead, Soph. He’s waiting for you.”
