Death's loving embrase

Lights around me were blurred, and seemed to melt into a trail of bright colors. By now the pain might as well have been gone. The fuzzy creatures around me prodded, shook, and tried reviving me. They all should have known better. This was only a more heart-breaking, futile act. It would only worsen their pain. I swallowed a mix of blood, dirt, and saliva, feeling myself slowly entering bliss and leaving pain and horror. It was almost happy, like a wedding or a birthday. Ah, birthdays… I’d had a few of those. But, that repetitious cycle would soon come to a close, and I wouldn’t have to sit awkwardly as my kin and friends chanted that bloody song. As the room grew dimmer, I smiled.

I was going home.
