The Sleepy Insomniac

I am exhausted. My eyes will not close.
Shadows ring my eyes. I am too cold.
My muscles are sore. I am dying of heat.
It is way past midnight. My brain won’t shut off.
Everyone is asleep already. I toss and turn.
I want a sweet dream. My stomach grumbles.
I took some sleep serum. A brilliant idea appears.
I was up the whole night before. My hands itch to write.
I yawn every two minutes. My heartbeat does not slow.
I can not lie awake for eight hours. My mind counts the seconds.
Family says I look very tired. I do three hundred sit-ups in bed.
I can’t take a nap tomorrow so I need sleep now. I count a million sheep.
I worked the nightshift for the first time. Looming nightmares bribe my eyes open.
I really really love to sleep. Songs are whirring around in my head.
The rain should help me sleep. I’m anxious for the thrill of thunder.
My eyes feel extremely heavy. My pillow is too lumpy.
The house is black and the sun is gone. My thoughts are nocturnal.
My energy is fading fast. My feet need to dance.
Help me?
