A Return

Some say the revolution started a thousand years ago, in the 21st century, when she finally came home.

It’d been millenia since she’d taken her Queen’s sabbatical and rode the Egyptian Trigate to the stars. She’d made a few side trips, though, and weary from two thousand years of inter-dimensional adventure, she fouled up her return trajectory and ended up crashing in a forest near the Bay of Gulanis – which was known then as Lake Huron.

Her travels had transformed her – she landed as a plasticky dun-colored slime unlike anything on Earth at the time. All that was left of her original, human form were her piercing, chestnut eyes.

Fortunately, her jaunt through NGC 253 had gifted her with the boon of hyper-evolution; she could snap-evolve. Within a day, she’d become a squirrel, a raccoon and finally a resplendent feline.

That evening, she was taken in by a young boy. As midnight neared, the boy held her close – and she spot-evolved into his doppelganger.

What happened next triggered a revolution.
