Love Isn't a Lie

Margaret’s body had sort of folded up on itself, a steady stream of tears ran down her cheeks. “You lied to me!” The pain in her voice was heart wrenching. Even though he knew this day would come, Pete could only stand there, stunned.

Pete forced words past his constricted throat. “I loved you, I’ve always loved you.” He longed to go to her but he knew that she would automatically reject him right now. His friends had tried to warn him from the beginning.

“Maybe that’s part of the lie too! How can I trust anything you’ve ever said?”

“I’m sorry that we lied. We didn’t think you would ever find out but just because you’re not our biological daughter doesn’t mean that we don’t love you very much. When your mom found out that she couldn’t have any children, you were a Godsend.” Pete’s voice took on a pleading note but he didn’t care. If he had to plead for his daughter’s love, then so be it. “Look at us. You have your mom’s wry sense of humor. You have my love of bad movies. We are a family, no matter what.”
