Messenger: About Turn

The Master said nothing. I noticed he was not looking at the man he who had been talking, but instead at the weapon he was cradling. The moment stretched into puzzled awkwardness, and the man pointedly powered up the gun. The Master carefully watched a little indicator tube on the side of the lightning-gun fill with Byzantium.

He snapped his gaze up to lock eyes, then casually turned around and ushered us out into the storm again. I looked back at the men with the lightning-guns, who had the look of those who were wondering if it was all too good to be true.

Wordlessly, ignoring all the questioning looks, he pulled out a rocket-pistol. The green nightflare raced up into the blizzard, the explosion lighting up the sky. Red Sky arrived just a few minutes later.

“What was that about?” the Keeper demanded as soon as the hangar doors were shut.
“I don’t know,” the Master muttered, “but I’ve got a good idea how I’m going to find out.”
