“Beatrice Sharp!” The teacher hollered.

Beatrice almost fell off her seat as she jolted awake, “Jellyfish!”

She could hear the ripples of snickers in the class. The teacher rolled his eyes in despair.

“No. Jellyfish do not live in the Benthic Zone of the ocean. Can you tell me why, Ms. Sharp?” The teacher asked.

Beatrice grimaced, “Because jellyfish don’t like the Benthic Zone?”

More laughter ensued. Beatrice frowned & looked around for an escape. She caught Oliver’s eye and mouthed for help.

Oliver shot her a dark look before calling out, “The Benthic Zone is the lowest point on the bottom of a body of water. Thus, shrimp and crustaceans could live in the Benthic Zone.”

The laughter died and the teacher smiled, impressed. “Good. Now, tomorrow we will cover the voyage of the HMS Challenger. Come prepared, and awake.”

The students filed out quickly and Beatrice made a beeline for Oliver, “Thanks, Oliver. I owe you one.”

“Maybe if you paid attention in class, you wouldn’t have to owe me.”
