They sat on the couch together. She was practically in his lap.
He picked out the movie. Of course it was something somewhat sappy and romantic because it was Valentine’s day after all.
As they continued to watch, he began to stroke her hair, feeling the soft strands run through his fingers.
He cleared his throat, “I gotta tell you…I’m glad you’re here tonight. I thought I was going to be alone for this holiday!” He grabbed the remote and placed it on mute. “The thing is, is that I’ve always been alone for Valentine’s day and that’s okay and all, but it’s nice to have company, you know what I mean? I don’t know what it is, but I can always be myself around you, you’re my best friend.”
Gently, he placed his hand on her. “I just want you to know that I’m glad we are here together!”
Her big green eyes stared right back at his.
“Meow?” His cat, Maple, replied to him whilst purring loudly.
He sat back, stroked her fur, and they continued to watch Titanic.
“Happy Valentine’s day to you too, Maple.”
