A Thought I Had Before I Went To Bed

Falling asleep with the window open
has its perks.
I can hear the rain drip and drop
on the aluminum awning over the window
in my room.
Headlights illuminate my wall for a split second,
travelers moving onward
to their destination,
or away from it.
Passersby make small talk,
stumbling over words after a late night
at the bar
or lovers hand in hand quietly
making their way back to bed.
Falling asleep with the window open
always lets in the spring chill,
the one that carries me to sleep.
