Death by Clown

In the crazed circus of my consciousness
I take my final walk across Reason’s rope,
Without a net to catch
The pieces of my shattered mind
As they scatter amidst the crowd below.

Each fragment trampled
Beneath careless feet and words
Into dirty straw
Beside countless cigarette butts
And their hidden flames which burn and scar
My delicate flesh without end

My strongman was buried beneath my baggage long ago
Leaving only clowns who slash crimson smiles
And laugh as they weep bloody tears
While bright white paint fades
To expose the rotten core beneath

Now I just wait
For a black hat’s final bow
To clear the spectators
And let me fade away.
