Race Against Time

Avatar Author: remembrancer When I discover a description of myself that rings true, I'll let you know. Read Bio

Speed through
Every memory that dares
To hold hostage
A single second of your day

Race by
Every mistake
That drags you deeper
Into a past miasma
Of pain and despair

Fly far enough
To leave behind
Every choice that ended in tragedy
Where logic
Was only an afterthought
And rejection followed every passionate declaration
With more consistency than the setting sun

So flee
Faster than you have before
Without time for second thoughts
In your desperate dash
To escape every haunted moment

For the past is catching up
Faster than a freight train
And your only choice
Is to run

Awesome. Each stanza begins with an action of speed. Excepting the last stanza, which ends with the action ‘to run’. I have to say, I enjoy reading your poetry. It’s fresh and modern without being overly eccentric.

Just keep going. Quickly. Lest your past catches up with you. Apparently that would be bad. :) Watch out for things in front of you, though. The faster you go, the faster they come.

Interesting. I know the feeling, though I’m not sure if it’s the healthiest way to move forward. Well put though, and it definitely resonates.
