I Have My Reasons

It happened again today.

Everything I needed, wanted.

Nestled comfortably between the sweaty crevasses of my palm.

Burning, shaking.

Burning, scarring.

Too scared to let it become me, too afraid to give my life to it.

Too afraid to let her down, too scared to leave her be.

It happened again today.

Everything I wanted, needed.

Worse off than when I found her.

Now I’ve left her.

Alone.

Far.

Gone.

Very tragic and feels like it could refer to a few different scenarios. Great job getting across this tortured and fatalistic sort of state of mind.

‘It happened again today.’ This line is an excellent use of repetition in verse to provide a chronic feel. I wonder how the piece would have felt if it had ended with that same line.

Too good to be true is the saying that fits here. The poor person cannot decide whether to grab life by the horns and go, or to stay and watch life pass by.

It’s almost as romantic to read as is the life story of someone successful.
