Until Your Darkness Combusts

Alas my heart for a weak willed former friend
Tell me now how many times I will need to say
That until you bring your frail courses to an end
This gap you cast between us must remain

Yet you have the audacity to ask me for grace
So shockingly misnamed – when I’ve explained
You must clear the rubble up from where it lays
In ruin – before a new foundation can be laid

Your melancholy final words to me betray a desire
To skip consequences for the destruction you’ve wrought
While the bridge is yet flaming- your hands holding the fire
And I cannot provide the false comfort you sought

I watch with care to see if you are willing to rise beyond
The semblance of honor from which you were quick to abscond
