Shadowed Closure

Annie shook her head, her face glimmered with tears. "Why are you here, Cissy?”

Clarissa clasped her hands in front of her and moved to stand in front of her sister. “Why do you think?”

Annie rubbed her face with balled fists. “I don’t know,” she said, “How would I know that?”

Clarissa tilted her head, like she was trying to understand why her little sister couldn’t see what was so obvious. “I died, Annie.”

Annie gaped at Clarissa. “I know, Clarissa! I was there!”

Clarissa nodded her head. “Yes, you were. And I still died.”

Annie glared at her sister. “It wasn’t my fault! The car was out of control, I couldn’t do anything! I couldn’t stop it!”

The shadows behind Clarissa reached out and pulled her back into them.

“Maybe it’s time you believed that.” Clarissa whispered as her bones fell into the embrace of the shadows.

Annie opened her eyes. She was lying in sweat soaked sheets that tangled around her legs. Clarissa’s last words echoing in her head.
