Cafe Cause A Scene

Avatar Author: Tad Winslow "If you don't work nothing will." Maya Angelou Read Bio

A metal spoon crusted with icing is stuck to the floor.
People walk by for hours.
No one dares glance in the mess’s direction,
for, once acknowledged, the problem becomes a responsibility,
a burden really, and manual labor is not what people go out to eat for.
The wait staff hovers by the drink table— bees by their honeycomb.
That’s where they take all of the take-home money home.
Maybe everyone saw me throw my spoon.

The fourth line is silver edged steel.
If I were the kind of person to go in for tattoos, this would hold a place of honor. As it is, I burn it into memory.

Odd and cute. Has a defiant or maybe a desperate flair to it.

I keep trying to compose commentary on this display, but I can’t get past my own experience as the employee waiting to clean up a mess. In that you are spot on. Extremely uncomfortable place to be.

Wow- this is so candid and poignant without being too “wallow-y”, and in addition you made it supremely effective in only 11 short lines. I’m so impressed with this, really great work.

The last line indicates a character that is playful yet observant of the character of others. I like the complexity. The format is great too. Awesome work!
