Autopilot

This is from my book, (unpublished) that I wrote in verse about personal experience and healing…this is one of the more depressing, but profound parts. The spaces that provide an awesome visual for the reading won’t show up, but I still like it.

AUTOPILOT:
a state of living
(or not)
your body operates without you:
walk
breathe
smile
laugh
listen
learn
nod
eat
sleep
walk
breathe
just words, verbs; they start to rule your life
you drive yourself insane trying
hurt
alone
needing someone
having no one
this is what you are
in your own arms you fall to pieces
don’t let them see you cry
say goodbye
to naivety
the day your mother asks,
/what is wrong?/
you straighten up
a lie never came so easily to your lips
as when you tell her-
I’m Fine.
