Robbery at Dringer's

Dringer’s Jewelers was a city landmark. At the corner of Weber and King Streets, its white facade gleamed in the daylight and glowed in the streetlight. Frank Dringer ran the place, and to some it seemed as though Frank had been there since the beginning of time and looked the same now that he did in the 50’s. He could usually be seen standing in the doorway saying hello to people as they walked past, or behind his worktable inspecting the latest shipment of diamonds.

Dringer’s wife Beatrice worked by Frank’s side and would sweep across the retail floor like a fairy godmother making sure customers were well taken care of, but not smothered. Bea mentored Janice, who flitted about the jewelry store like a bird.

Jodi and Neil Seeley were there that morning picking out an engagement ring. High school sweethearts, they had found each other again through Facebook and decided to tie the knot. They had just picked out a nice ring when three people burst in.

“Be cool! This is a robbery!” one of them shouted.
