None of you know
What life is all about,
Nor do you know
True optimism—

Being hopeful in the midst of despair,
Steadfast in the face of adversity.

Witnessing all sorts of evils,
Acknowledging them fully,
And still managing to find
The goodness in humanity,
Purity in a world so dirty.

You’re all a bunch of fickle fools.

You embraced your youth
Yet had it squashed at the same time.

I was one of you—
And I still am.
But I haven’t lost sight
Of who I am
And who I hope to become.

Have you?

Your arrogance in this poem raised my hackles a bit. I’m going to leave it at that, don’t know if that was the intention of this piece or not.

Yes, I’ve done quite a bit of venting in this poem. And you have a good point. But don’t get me wrong—I’m a misguided soul just like many others. I don’t know what life is all about, either. I just wish that more people did, so they could clue in the rest of us.

  3. Avatar Krulltar

this was a decidedly naive poem, which captures youthful ignorance and aggression; but not in a bad way, since that seems to be the poems intent.

I’ve been there. Right on that exact spot. Eloquently put.
