Broken [poem]

I am bone-white and broken
bewildered by your absence
tortured by my memories
remembering promises made
now unmade
remembering days spent
now unspent
as if yesterday never happened
as if tomorrow never will
as if all the water in the world
is not enough to fill the aching void
my eyes the eyes you said you loved
now are barren and wasted
I can’t open them for fear I won’t see you
I can’t close them for fear I will see you
and the world outside me just won’t stop
and the emptiness inside me just won’t fade
