The palace at Versailles was in turmoil. Most of the army was dead. An army of clockwork soldiers stood over the bodies of the fallen French soldiers. The king was dead, his body guarded by the last of his faithful guard.

Charles Babbage walked up to the last ring of soldiers. “Your continued defiance does not compute,” he said. “Machines will reign supreme!”

“No,” gasped the old captain. “It is your fault she has made this terrible sacrifice.”

“Who are you talking about?”

The front door of Versailles blasted open, and Marie Antoinette walked out. Her right arm was gone, replaced with a depleted uranium repeating cannon.

Marie leveled the cannon at the clockwork army. “Let them eat yellowcake,” she said.
