Encounter with difference

“Ah, Mr. Jennings, thank you for coming in so quickly.” The principal looked over her glasses at Jennings, who regarded her levelly. “You understand why I called you?”
“Not really.”
“Michael assaulted another child in the playground today. Pulled down his trousers and underpants. I cannot sufficiently express the distress this caused to the child concerned.”
“That Tracey freak?”
“His name is Simon.”
“Got no dick, though.”
Mrs Thomson blinked a couple of times and consciously unclenched her fists and relaxed her bunched jaw muscles.
“Please explain to me, Mr. Jennings, and do it slowly so I can understand, how the possession of or lack of a penis justifies assault.”
“It ain’t right, is it? Girl dressing up as a boy, claiming to be a boy. Simon? My arse.”
“Something for you and your son to ponder, Mr. Jennings, during his week’s suspension: why are you this threatened by the actions of a child? If Michael does this again, I will involve the police. Good day to you.”
