Time off from Hell

The scene had repeated itself 1,698,543 times so far. He knew this because this place didn’t give you the luxury of forgetting. Passing out wasn’t an option. So, it happened again and again.

He showed up with his beautiful wife, whom he loved deeply, to his parents house for Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone was there. And they all hated him. His wife most of all. They spent the entire dinner gobbling down delicious food in open mockery of his intense hunger. He was exhausted, and could barely lift the silverware. When he did manage to get some food into his belly, it was vomited up. The vomit was always writhing with maggots. His parents expressed their disappointment in him, his wife berated his lovemaking, his siblings celebrated his inadequacies, and they all laughed at him. When it was too much, he would rise to attack his torturers. They tore him to shreds and consumed his flesh upon the table. Again and again.

“It can all stop.” the voice whispered, “Say yes to my offer, and be free.”
“I will serve you.”
