The Christmas Letter
I’m sure I’m not the only one who receives the occasional Christmas card with an accompanying duplicated ‘letter’ telling of their family’s adventures through the previous year. Some of these seem to me to make for astounding reading – is everything really going so brilliantly?
It occurred to me that there might be some entertainment from writing 2 (two) ficlets with the same title (+A, then B) that reproduce a possible year’s summary from a fictional family:
The Hendricks’ Christmas Letter A
>Eldest Daughter at University;
>Middle son doing well at school;
>Mum’s re-embarking on her teaching career;
>Dad’s practicing his golf swing.
The Hendricks’ Christmas Letter B
>Eldest Daughter started University in September but left after only three weeks;
>Middle son runs gambling den at school;
>Mum’s having to work again because…
>Dad hit someone with a golf club and is now in prison for assault.
Anyway, I thought it might be a fun way to get the creative juices flowing.
