Ficly

Women's History Month

On March 3, 1913 over 5000 women marched down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC just before the president’s inauguration (yes, it was held later in the year then). By some accounts 8000 women, men, and children marched demanding women receive the right to vote from newly elected President Wilson.
The crowd jeered, pushed, and attacked them as they paraded past. 100 marchers were hospitalized and ambulances came and went for 6 hours. You can read a scholarly account here: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/awhhtml/aw01e/aw01e.html

Please celebrate their struggle with a ficly (or a factly if you would rather). Remember a woman who encouraged, sacrificed, or inspired you. You may choose prose or poetry. I look forward to your pieces!
