Pick a famous published author – a really big name, someone whose writing is widely known and associated with a particular genre or style. I don’t mind which era they’re from – anyone from William Shakespeare to Charlotte Bronte to Stephen King… Write a story in which the author appears as a character, and something happens in the vein of their own narrative style. I know we have some illustrious authors amongst our Ficly ranks, but this is not a Ficly profiling challenge, so Ficly in-jokes will get disqualified, I’m afraid. This is an invitation to exercise your copycat muscles and work with mood, style and genre while having a bit of fun with the characters themselves. You have plenty of time – enjoy!
