The Hero's Journey.

First described by Joseph Campbell in The Hero with One Thousand faces The Hero’s Journey, also called the Monomyth (http://is.gd/bILeH) is a model that describes certain common elements in narratives and folk tales from around the world. and it is summarized in the introduction to that book;

“A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.”

This journey has 17 stages (link goes to list), not all narratives contain all of them, focus on one stage or follow them in a different order.

Write about a protagonist following the hero’s journey, it can be a brief journey, it can be a part of a larger journey, it can be an atypical hero, it can be your twist and tweaks on the stages.
